Can You Help Close The Gap
There remains a lot to be done to close the gap on the lack of opportunity for young Indigenous people, however a program such as this has all the elements of success. Over the next two years DRAES will work with 100 young Indigenous people to ensure they have established pathways into employment, are job ready and are provided with mentoring for their first twelve months.
The young people that have worked with DRAES are now realising their dreams, to have meaningful ongoing employment, which leads to their economic independence. The DRAES program highlights the importance of partnerships and what can be achieved when governments, employers, unions and communities work together.
EMPLOYERS, INDUSTRY AND SUPPORTERS can help by:
- Assisting in developing an Indigenous Employment Policy
- Working with DRAES
- Finding out more about the Government Subsidies involved
SCHOOLS and CAREERS COUNCELLING and VOCATIONAL workers can help by:
- Asking DRAES to come and speak to your community about the Career opportunities, what is involved in the job specification and how staying at school may help with you chosen career path.
- Speak to Dean and Christian about individuals in the community or still at school that may benefit from this program.
